Renovation of the Apple Flagship Store in Puerta del Sol, Madrid

Renovation and fit-out of commercial premises in the Puerta del Sol for the American technology company.

Empty did a complete renovation and fit-out of the edifice at number 1 Puerta del Sol for the same client in 2014, including structural work, building systems, finishes, facade and furnishings.

New design requirements and customers’ changing needs of spatial use made it necessary to remodel most of the retail areas, a job complicated by the fact that the store remained open the entire time. This forced Empty to devise a carefully planned work schedule, organising work areas in phases, spreading works across different shifts and keeping the work site extremely clean and tidy to meet the brand’s image standards.

Furnishings and graphic elements were modified on the basement and ground levels, and a video wall was installed in the middle of the ground floor. On the first floor, the retail area was extended to the facade line, providing more square metres of display and retail space and increasing luminosity. The materials used for the renovation are in keeping with those already in place, and achieving similar finishes in both the old and the new areas was particularly challenging.
