The horizontal lines of the \u201cloggias\u201d that wrap around the entire building characterise its external appearance, leading Cano Lasso to describe its style as \u201cclassicist rationalism reminiscent of the Italian architecture of the 1930s\u201d.<\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The iconic building\u2014with a usable floor area of 13,991 square metres distributed among three floors above ground and a slightly larger basement level\u2014is accompanied by a ventilation shaft rising from the basement whose verticality presents a striking contrast to the low-lying office spaces. Both structures share a 15,370-square-metre plot with landscaped green zones, a terrace surrounding the buildings, and an outdoor car park with<br \/>\nmore than 180 spots.<span class=\"Apple-converted-space\">\u00a0<\/span><\/span><\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\"><img fetchpriority=\"high\" decoding=\"async\" class=\"size-medium wp-image-6319 alignright\" src=\"https:\/\/www.empty.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/NAROPA-Empty-axo-01-300x169.png\" alt=\"\" width=\"300\" height=\"169\" srcset=\"https:\/\/www.empty.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/NAROPA-Empty-axo-01-300x169.png 300w, https:\/\/www.empty.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/NAROPA-Empty-axo-01-1024x576.png 1024w, https:\/\/www.empty.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/NAROPA-Empty-axo-01-768x432.png 768w, https:\/\/www.empty.es\/wp-content\/uploads\/2019\/03\/NAROPA-Empty-axo-01.png 1145w\" sizes=\"(max-width: 300px) 100vw, 300px\" \/><\/span>The author of the new remodeling project is Madrid architect Carlos Lamela, who is also determined to respect the spirit of the original design. After a painstaking study of the facade, Empty decided to preserve the original white marble cladding, restoring and anchoring it to the concrete cantilever ends of the floor slabs. The building\u2019s volume is also being enhanced with the addition of a light roof over the three open bays on the second floor, thereby gaining 900 square metres of office space.<\/p>\n<p class=\"p1\"><span class=\"s1\">The contract also involves considerable structural work on the main circulation core, which is being completely demolished and replaced by one with a metal frame, after <\/span><span class=\"s2\">moving a bay in one of the inner courtyards.
