Apple Concept Store at Selfridges & Co. Oxford Street, London

Renovation and fitting-out works of retail premises at the flagship Selfridges store on London’s Oxford Street for an American technology firm.

In this project, complex work, the client tested for the first time a new language to be implemented in its stores around the world.

Empty was trusted to build new solutions for flooring and wall finishes, oversized mirrors, and bespoke light fittings. The elements to be installed included an 8 m long table fabricated in one piece and weighting 2 tonnes, together with eight bespoke planters in concrete and leather holding 4 m tall real trees. The additional load on the slab of the department store required new steel beams to be installed underneath. An extra eight planters and trees, weighting 1 tonne each, were installed on the street pavement.

The works had to be done out of opening hours and dealing with very strict requirements, but were nevertheless completed on time following a tight programme.
